Areas

We strive to ship to all countries where there are no restrictions. If your country does not appear in the list of countries on the checkout page, please contact us, and we will check if shipping is possible. Even after your order is confirmed, if we find that shipping knives to your country is problematic, we may change the shipping method or cancel your order.

It has already been confirmed that some countries do not accept the shipment of knives via Japan Post's EMS. For example, Japan Post's EMS prohibits the shipment of knives to the United Kingdom. This restriction is in accordance with UK laws or customs regulations.

If shipping via EMS is not possible, we will consult with you to try using FedEx. However, please note that the shipping cost for FedEx is quite high, typically ranging from 4,000 to 6,000 JPY.

The following is a list of countries where it has been confirmed that EMS prohibits the shipment of knives. To reiterate, this is not an issue with EMS itself but rather due to regulations imposed by the authorities of each respective country. It may be possible to ship to these countries using FedEx. For instance, we successfully shipped to a customer in the United Kingdom using FedEx. Please note that there may be other countries not listed here where shipping knives could also be problematic.

  • Egypt
  • Greenland
  • United Kingdom

The shop tools provider used by Ichie Hamono restricts services to the following countries. We sincerely apologize, but we are unable to ship to these countries. We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience caused.

  • Cuba
  • Iran
  • North Korea
  • Syria
  • The Crimea region of Ukraine, as well as the Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic in Ukraine

As of April 2025, Japan Post has suspended airmail service to Iceland.
Therefore, delivery is only possible via surface mail or FedEx.
Please note that surface mail is expected to take 3 to 4 months to arrive after shipment.
FedEx, on the other hand, incurs a high shipping cost, exceeding 10,000 yen.

Shipping

We currently offer Japan Post EMS and Japan Post Small Packet. Japan Post EMS takes 7-14 days to deliver. Japan Post Small Packet takes 14-16 days to deliver. Japan Post Small Packet is more affordable than Japan Post EMS, but the weight is limited to a maximum of 2kg.

As mentioned above, if it is not possible to ship knives via EMS to your country, we can discuss the option of trying FedEx.

EMS & Small Packet costs about 1,500 ~ 4,000 JPY. This can be paid at checkout. If you want to know how much it costs before you go to the checkout page, contact us. We can tell you that.

Import Duties & Taxes

Shince we ship from Japan, there might be duties and taxes, and those charges are the buyer's responsibility. We don't charge taxes for orders from foreign countries.

Undervaluing items is illegal, so we will not comply with such requests. There are significant risks involved, and we are concerned that it could jeopardize the continuation of our business.

Please note that prepaid duty shipping (DDP) is available exclusively for orders shipped to the United States. For more details on this option, please refer to the "United States" section under the country-specific notes below.

Notes on Returned Shipments

Please monitor your tracking information and receive your package promptly. > Once your order arrives in your country, if a delivery is attempted while you are away, the package will be held at your local post office or carrier facility. Please ensure you check your tracking status and arrange for redelivery or collection as soon as possible. If a package is not collected within the holding period (typically 6–10 days) or cannot be delivered due to an incorrect address, it will be automatically returned to Japan.

Our Policy on Reshipping & Refunds:

  • For Reshipment: If a package is returned to our shop, customers will be responsible for paying the reshipping fees before we can send the order again.

  • For Refunds: If you prefer a refund instead of reshipment, please note that the refund will be issued minus the original shipping fees and payment processing fees.

To avoid these extra costs and ensure a smooth delivery, please double-check your shipping address at checkout and keep an eye on your tracking updates. Thank you for your cooperation!

Notes for Specific Countries

United States

For orders shipped to the United States, we use Japan Post with prepaid duties (DDP). Both Japan Post EMS (DDP) and Japan Post ePacket Light (DDP) are available and can be selected at checkout.

The biggest advantage is the low customs duty rate. Because Japan Post shipments are processed through the postal customs system, they are exempt from the high commercial tariffs that apply to carriers like UPS and DHL (driven by the repeal of the de minimis exemption and Section 232 tariffs). As a result, the duty is approximately 10% of (product price + shipping fee), plus a fixed fee of about $5.5 USD—far lower than the 45–60% that commercial carriers can incur.

Because this is a prepaid duty (DDP) system, the customs duty must be paid before shipment. For this reason, after you place your order, we will send you a separate invoice for the duty by email. This is an additional charge on top of the product price and shipping fee you pay at checkout.

How It Works

  1. At checkout, select Japan Post EMS (DDP) or Japan Post ePacket Light (DDP), and complete payment for the product price and shipping fee.
  2. We will send you an invoice for the customs duties by email.
  3. Once your payment of the customs duties is confirmed, we will begin preparing your shipment.
  4. No additional fees will be charged upon arrival in the U.S.

Please note: Customs duty rates are subject to change without notice, and the actual USD amount may vary depending on the exchange rate. Shipping fees are automatically calculated at checkout based on the weight of your order.

Italy

For orders shipped to Italy via Japan Post EMS or Small Packet, additional recipient information is required for customs clearance.

Please provide one of the following identification numbers in the notes at checkout, or upon our request:

  • For Individuals: Tax Identification Number (Codice Fiscale)
  • For Companies: Italian VAT Registration Number (Partita IVA)

Please note that we cannot proceed with your shipment until this information is provided, as it is strictly required by the carrier and Italian customs. If it is not included at checkout, we will contact you via email after your order is placed.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Australia

Please note that for shipments sent via Japan Post Small Packet, tracking updates will stop once the package arrives in Australia due to the specifications of Australia Post. If you prefer to track your package all the way to your doorstep, we highly recommend choosing EMS instead.

European Union

Starting July 1, 2026, the duty-free exemption for postal items under €150 will be abolished for goods imported into the EU, and a customs charge of €3 per HS code (commodity classification number) will apply. As always, these charges are the buyer's responsibility and are paid upon receipt.

Applicable Countries and Regions

Ireland, Italy, Estonia, Austria, Netherlands, Guadeloupe, Cyprus, Greece, Croatia, Sweden, Spain, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Finland, France, French Guiana, Bulgaria, Belgium, Poland, Portugal, Malta, Martinique, Monaco, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Luxembourg, Réunion

How the Charge Is Calculated

The €3 charge is applied per HS code, not per item—so it depends on the number of product categories, not quantity:

  • 3 knives → 1 HS code → €3
  • 2 knives + 1 sharpening stone → 2 HS codes → €6
  • 1 knife + 1 sharpening stone + 1 rust-prevention oil → 3 HS codes → €9

The final charge is determined by the destination country's customs authorities and may differ from these examples.
